William
A. ("Willy") Wilson's practice focuses on corporate and financial matters, particularly those matters involving international
transactions. Willy has extensive experience in cross-border acquisitions and dispositions, as well as in venture
capital and representation of international financial institutions.
Prior to starting Wilson International Law,
Willy was a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr (legacy Wilmer). Before joining Wilmer, Willy headed the Hong
Kong office of Kelley Drye & Warren, which he opened, from 1995 to 2000. As a member of that firm's Project Finance
and Infrastructure Group, and co-head of their Asia Practice Group, he advised clients doing business in Asia, Africa, and
Europe, as well as the United States, on a wide variety of matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures,
project finance and venture capital issues. Prior to that, Willy served as Regional Counsel for the Michelin group,
with responsibility for Asia and Australia. From 1983 to 1985, Willy was a Vice President of Yankelovich Skelly
& White in New York. From 1985 to 1992, he was an associate at Shearman & Sterling, working in their Hong
Kong office from 1986 to 1989.
Recent Highlights
- Represented the Futures Group in their sale to Constella
Group, LLC, a rapidly growing professional health services company based in the U.S., with more than 40 offices worldwide.
- Represented a leading private equity investor in the
acquisition of an Asian power plant.
- Represented OPIC in secured lending transactions to
private equity funds investing outside the United States.
- Represented Grameen
Foundation USA in joint ventures in Uganda and India.
Professional
Activities Willy is a frequent author and speaker on corporate
legal topics, particularly those related to cross-border transactions. In addition, Willy has been elected to the
steering committee for the International Section of the DC Bar.
